Life insurers NBP rose 13.07 per cent in June to Rs 46,490 crore

Life insurance companies in India reported new business premium rose 13.07 per cent in June to Rs 46,490.53 crore compared to the Rs 41,117.30 crore a year earlier.

Market leader, the State-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) posted a muted NBP growth of 1.2 per cent at Rs 27,724.62 crore compared to Rs 27,395 crore during the same period last year.

Private life insurers premium income clocked 36.76 per cent jump to Rs 18,765.90 crore from Rs 13,722.29 crore.

The number of policies or schemes sold by all life insurance companies in June was 2,151,880; this figure stood at 2,006,322 during the same period the previous year.

For the quarter ended June, the new business of the life insurers increased 16.60 per cent from Rs 109071.75 crore compared to a year ago period garnered Rs 93,544.69 crore.

LIC registered a new business premium income of Rs 65,548.88 crore, an increase of 10.33 per cent from the Rs 59,410.68 crore a year earlier. The number of policies and schemes it sold during the first quarter was a little over 2 per cent more y-o-y at 3105635 from 3043557 previous period.

The private players for the June quarter, reported new business increased 27.51 per cent to Rs 43,522.87 crore compared to Rs 34,134.01 crore during same period last year, policies and schemes sold increased at 12.68 per cent y-o-y period at 2007797.

Among private companies, SBI Life Insurance recorded a 21.97 percent growth in its New Business Premium (NBP), raising its value to Rs 3,196.11 crore. HDFC Life Insurance recorded Rs 3,324.01 crore with a growth of 31.73 percent, while ICICI Prudential Life Insurance posted Rs 1,967.25 crore with a growth of 25.07 percent.

Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance emerged as the fastest-growing company among major private insurers; its NBP value rose by 76.63 percent to reach Rs 1,503.87 crore. Axis Max Life Insurance recorded Rs 1,503.87 crore, marking a growth of 21.09 percent.
