U.S. Stocks rebound as oil prices retreat
18-Sep-26   12:56 Hrs IST
US equities registered solid advances yesterday, spurred by a pullback in oil prices and a decline in bond yields following recent increases. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 316.14 points, equating to a 0.61% gain, to reach 51,778.04. The S&P 500 climbed 85.95 points, a 1.14% increase, to 7,637.76, whereas the Nasdaq Composite appreciated by 439.87 points, or 1.69%, to settle at 26,418.30. The rebound in equities followed Wednesday's Federal Reserve interest rate hike, which had previously induced selling pressure, and lifted the DOW from a three-month trough. The yield on the US 10-year Treasury note retreated seven basis points to 4.93% on Tuesday. Supportive signals emerged from the US labor market. According to a Department of Labor (DoL) report released Thursday, initial jobless claims decreased by 10,000 from the previous week's unrevised level, registering 196,000 for the seven days concluding September 12. The 4-week moving average decreased by 2,750 from the prior week's unrevised average, arriving at 203,250.
