The key equity barometers traded with marginal losses in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 23175-22970. Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Auto shares gained, while Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Financial Services shares declined.

At 10:45 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 322.36 points or 0.43% to 74,406.91. The Nifty 50 index moved lower by 95.15 points or 0.41% to 23,051.

The broader market surpassed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index lost 0.11% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index inched down 0.74%.

The market breadth was fragile. On the BSE, 1685 shares rose and 2955 shares retreated. A total of 285 shares were unchanged.

Nifty PSU Bank index climbed 1.95% to 8253. The index has eased by 2.19% in last one month and posted modest gains of 5.28% over last one year. Punjab Natl.Bank, moving higher 5.38%, led the gainers followed by Canara Bank, up 2.70% and Union Bank (I), inching higher 2.33%, respectively. Out of 12 index constituents, 11 are reporting gains today.

Nifty Pharma index moved higher by 0.26% to 25850. The index has inched lower by 1.39% in last one month and jumped 16.64% over last one year. Mankind Pharma, gaining 1.53%, led the gainers followed by Torrent Pharma., adding 1.24% and Ajanta Pharma, edging up 1.19%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 14 are reporting gains today.

Nifty Private Bank index shed 1.65%. The index has inched higher by 1.53% in last one month and edged lower by 1.55% over last one year. Axis Bank, easing 3.74%, led the losers followed by HDFC Bank, down 2.07% and Yes Bank, edging lower 1.02%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 9 are reporting loss today.

Out of 14 sectoral indices on NSE, 9 are in red today. Nifty PSU Bank index has recorded steep losses of 2.19% in last one month and has advanced 5.28% over last year. Nifty Private Bank index has gained 1.53% in last one month and is modestly lower by 1.55% over last one year.

From NIFTY50 index, Yes Bank, Vodafone Idea AND Bharti Airtel are leading in terms of volumes today, clocking turnover of 1354.48 lakh shares, 734.31 lakh shares and 74586.62 lakh shares respectively.

Asian markets slipped on Monday. China’s Shanghai composite is marginally higher by 0.02%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is trading lower by 0.52%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is lower by 0.76%.
