Local stocks see minor losses, NIFTY down 0.81%

The key equity barometers traded with limited losses in early trade. Nifty opened at 24472 and hit a high of 24473 in first half hour of trade. Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Metal and Nifty Bank shares advanced, while Nifty IT and Nifty Realty shares fell. At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 624.47 points or 0.80% to 77,529.78. The Nifty 50 index decreased by 199 points or 0.81% to 24,272.70. The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index inched down 0.34% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index moved lower by 0.33%. The market breadth was soft. On the BSE, 1921 shares gained and 2852 shares declined. A total of 221 shares were unchanged. Nifty PSU Bank index gained 1.45% to 8766. The index has inched higher by 2.12% in last one month and recorded robust gains of 22.86% over last one year. Punjab Natl.Bank, adding 3.79%, led the gainers followed by Bank of Maha, edging up 3.27% and Union Bank (I), up 1.56%, respectively. Out of 12 index constituents, 8 are reporting gains today. Nifty Metal index inched up 0.15% to 13121. The index has moved higher by 3.96% in last one month and surged 42.48% over last one year. Natl. Aluminium, advancing 7.49%, led the gainers followed by Hindustan Copper, moving higher 5.80% and Hindalco Inds., inching higher 2.67%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 8 are reporting gains today. Nifty IT index shed 2.52%. The index has risen 9.68% in last one month and lost 7.88% over last one year. TCS, declining 5.09%, led the losers followed by LTM, losing 2.61% and Mphasis, down 2.14%, respectively. All 10 index constituents are reporting losses today. In NIFTY500, Kalpataru Proj. is the top gainer today, registering sharp gains of 8.37% to Rs 1460.55. The counter is modestly higher 8.88% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 25359.83 in last five sessions compared to 11740.18 over last one month. Asian markets traded slightly higher on Wednesday. China’s Shanghai composite is up 0.39%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is lower by 0.92%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is trading higher by 0.83%.
