Local stocks see marginal gains

The key equity barometers traded with limited gains in early trade. Nifty opened at 24284 and hit a high of 24284 in first half hour of trade. Nifty Metal, Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Bank shares advanced, while Nifty FMCG and Nifty Auto shares declined. At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, up 121.95 points to 77,659.67. The Nifty 50 index moved higher by 17.50 points or 0.07% to 24,249.35. The broader market failed to keep pace with frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index posted modest gains of 0.10% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged higher by 0.40%. The market breadth was encouraging. On the BSE, 2593 shares gained and 1917 shares fell. A total of 284 shares were unchanged. Nifty Metal index added 0.81% to 13165. The index has inched higher by 4.12% in last one month and spiked 37.51% over last one year. Welspun Corp, jumping 13.97%, led the gainers followed by Hindustan Zinc, edging up 3.14% and Hindustan Copper, up 2.47%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 11 are reporting gains today. Nifty Private Bank index posted modest gains of 0.54% to 27597. The index has eased by 1.48% in last one month and inched up 1.89% over last one year. Bandhan Bank, adding 1.52%, led the gainers followed by Kotak Mah. Bank, inching higher 1.20% and Federal Bank, gaining 0.83%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 7 are reporting gains today. Nifty FMCG index edged lower by 0.88%. The index has drifted lower by 2.45% in last one month and tumbled 15.53% over last one year. Britannia Inds., easing 3.38%, led the losers followed by Radico Khaitan, losing 1.59% and Emami, down 1.47%, respectively. All 15 index constituents are reporting losses today. In NIFTY500, Welspun Corp is the top gainer today, spiking 13.97% to Rs 2284. The counter is sharply higher by 129.77% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 37418.33 in last five sessions compared to 42263.79 over last one month. Asian markets posted modest gains on Friday. China’s Shanghai composite is slightly lower by 0.16%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is higher by 0.77%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is marginally lower by 0.37%.
