The key domestic indices finished sharply lower. Nifty Metal, Nifty Realty and Nifty Media shares declined.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, declined 1045.46 points or 1.44% to 71,593.24. The Nifty 50 index plunged 371.25 points or 1.64% to 22,231.80. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex eased by 1.44% and 1.09%, respectively.

The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index slumped 2.48% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index tumbled 2.49%.

The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1065 shares rose and 4243 shares retreated. A total of 193 shares were unchanged.

ITC Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 536.8 lakh shares and saw a sharp increase of 76.92% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has inched higher by around 0.83% in last one-month and has dropped sharply 33.54% over last one year.

Tata Steel Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 306.9 lakh shares and recorded a sharp spurt of 12.37% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has plunged around 5.37% in last one-month and has gained modestly 2.46% over last one year.

Index action

The Nifty Metal index slumped 3.55% to 11870.05 today. The index has dropped sharply by 3.56% in last one week and has declined 6.43% over last one month. It has soared by 21.17% in last one year. Adani Enterprises Ltd (down 5.36%), Vedanta Aluminium Metal Ltd (down 4.96%), Jindal Steel Ltd (down 4.81%), Steel Authority of India Ltd (down 4.62%) and JSW Steel Ltd (down 4.46%) fell.

The Nifty Realty index plunged 3.16% to 796.6 today. The index has tumbled by 2.92% in last one week and has shed 7.83% over last one month. It has eased by 7.75% in last one year. Anant Raj Ltd (down 4.84%), Oberoi Realty Ltd (down 4.19%), Phoenix Mills Ltd (down 4.03%), Lodha Developers Ltd (down 3.95%) and Aditya Birla Real Estate Ltd (down 2.99%) retreated.

Global Markets

European markets edged lower.

DOW futures are modestly lower by 0.79% today.

MCX Crude oil futures are rallying by 4.36% at Rs 8558.0 per barrel.

NIFTY50 futures ended firmly lower by 1.58% at 22275 and are in a premium of 43 points compared to NIFTY50.
