Local stocks closed slightly lower

The key domestic indices closed marginally lower. Nifty Realty, Nifty Metal and Nifty Media shares advanced, while Nifty IT and Nifty FMCG shares declined. As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 281.09 points or 0.36% to 77,728.16. The Nifty 50 index inched down 78.35 points or 0.32% to 24,287.65. The broader market outpaced the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index inched up 0.18% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index moved higher by 0.06%. The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 2367 shares gained and 2865 shares retreated. A total of 240 shares were unchanged. Oil & Natural Gas Corpn Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 253.43 lakh shares and recorded a sharp spurt of 127.69% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has slumped by around 5.02% in last one-month and has drifted lower 0.23% over last one year. Eternal Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 189.72 lakh shares and registered a sharp decline of 9.90% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has risen sharply by around 11.31% in last one-month and has risen slightly 0.03% over last one year. 6 stocks in NSE500 index hit record high today. Index action The Nifty Realty index edged higher by 1.46% to 908.7 today. The index is marginally higher by 1.09% in last one week and has eased by 2.50% over last one month. It is up around 1.85% in last one year. Oberoi Realty Ltd (up 4.60%), Godrej Properties Ltd (up 3.22%), Phoenix Mills Ltd (up 2.11%), DLF Ltd (up 0.90%) and Lodha Developers Ltd (up 0.81%) moved higher. The Nifty Metal index moved higher by 1.26% to 13104.6 today. The index has retreated by 1.88% in last one week and has moved higher by 2.08% over last one month. It has soared by 40.42% in last one year. Hindustan Copper Ltd (up 8.24%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (up 3.07%), Steel Authority of India Ltd (up 2.41%), Jindal Steel Ltd (up 2.25%) and Hindalco Industries Ltd (up 1.98%) gained. The Nifty IT index fell 1.75% to 30807.8 today. The index is slightly lower by 0.60% in last one week and has added 9.17% over last one month. It eased by 9.98% in last one year. HCL Technologies Ltd (down 2.57%), Infosys Ltd (down 2.51%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (down 2.02%), Tech Mahindra Ltd (down 1.40%) and Mphasis Ltd (down 1.38%) moved lower. The Nifty FMCG index slipped by 1.05% to 48105.05 today. The index has slipped by 1.66% in last one week and has risen slightly by 0.19% over last one month. It declined by 11.05% in last one year. Nestle India Ltd (down 1.94%), ITC Ltd (down 1.85%), Marico Ltd (down 1.52%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd (down 1.06%) and Colgate-Palmolive (India) Ltd (down 0.86%) slipped. The Nifty Media index rose for a third session in a row today. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (up 2.53%), PVR Inox Ltd (up 1.53%), Sun TV Network Ltd (up 0.75%) and D B Corp Ltd (up 0.31%) jumped.
