The key domestic indices ended with modest losses. Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Bank and Nifty Healthcare Index shares advanced, while Nifty Media and Nifty Metal shares retreated.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, lost 307.24 points or 0.40% to 76,957.27. The Nifty 50 index inched down 95.25 points or 0.39% to 24,080.40. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex drifted lower by 0.53% and 0.67%, respectively.

The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index moved lower by 0.23% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged lower by 0.74%.

The market breadth was unfavorable. On the BSE, 2050 shares gained and 3227 shares declined. A total of 216 shares were unchanged.

Eternal Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 2721.52 lakh shares and recorded a sharp increase of 768.03% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has risen sharply by around 6.37% in last one-month and has moved up 3.96% over last one year.

HDFC Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 781.57 lakh shares and registered a sharp increase of 237.09% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has retreated by around 2.05% in last one-month and has slumped 24.80% over last one year.

The Nifty Private Bank index gained modestly by 0.97% to 28005.75 today. The index is modestly higher by 0.53% in last one week and has inched higher by 1.67% over last one month. It has gained modestly by 6.38% in last one year. Federal Bank Ltd (up 3.62%), IDFC First Bank Ltd (up 3.43%), Yes Bank Ltd (up 3.30%), Axis Bank Ltd (up 2.77%) and IndusInd Bank Ltd (up 2.27%) went up.

The Nifty Bank index edged higher by 0.92% to 58024.95 today. The index is down 0.46% in last one week and has moved higher by 1.31% over last one month. It is up around 6.83% in last one year. Federal Bank Ltd (up 3.62%), IDFC First Bank Ltd (up 3.43%), Yes Bank Ltd (up 3.30%), Axis Bank Ltd (up 2.77%) and IndusInd Bank Ltd (up 2.27%) gained.

The Nifty Media index fell sharply by 2.84% to 1557.35 today. The index has eased by 0.61% in last one week and has edged up 2.84% over last one month. It edged lower by 0.21% in last one year. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (down 7.81%), Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd (down 5.45%), Saregama India Ltd (down 2.62%), Prime Focus Ltd (down 2.41%) and Sun TV Network Ltd (down 1.76%) declined.

The Nifty Metal index fell 2.45% to 13193.9 today. The index is sharply higher by 2.68% in last one week and has gained 9.07% over last one month. It has jumped by 46.85% in last one year. Adani Enterprises Ltd (down 9.76%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd (down 4.27%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (down 3.41%), Vedanta Ltd (down 3.39%) and Steel Authority of India Ltd (down 2.50%) retreated.

The Nifty Healthcare Index index rose for a third session in a row today. Aurobindo Pharma Ltd (up 4.36%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (up 3.37%), Max Healthcare Institute Ltd (up 2.76%), Divis Laboratories Ltd (up 2.47%) and Mankind Pharma Ltd (up 1.52%) advanced.

Global Markets

European markets edged lower.

DOW futures are marginally lower by 0.24% today.

MCX Crude oil futures are trading with strong gains of 3.12% at Rs 7983.0 per barrel.

NIFTY50 futures closed marginally lower by 0.40% at 24245 and are in a premium of 165 points compared to NIFTY50.
