Japan stocks retrieve as bond yields ease
20-Aug-26   16:14 Hrs IST
Japanese shares increased on Thursday, with the Nikkei 225 up 1.36% to 66,217 and the Topix rising 1.18% to 4,060, ending a two-day decline. This rebound followed positive trends from Wall Street and a drop in global bond yields.

Concerns in the bond market lessened after the US Treasury announced plans to more than double its purchases of long-term debt. The US 30-year Treasury yield had reached a high not seen since 2007. Japan's 10-year government bond yield also fell to approximately 2.84%, down from a 30-year high of 2.95%.

In July, Japan's trade deficit grew significantly due to record-high imports, primarily driven by crude oil purchases, while exports remained strong, particularly for AI-related chips. Key gainers included Kioxia Holdings (+6%), SoftBank Group (+3.1%), Toyota Motor (+4.3%), Nintendo (+2.4%), and Advantest (+1%).
