China stocks negate inflationary concers
09-Sep-26   17:05 Hrs IST
Chinese equities registered a modest advance on Wednesday, notwithstanding apprehensions surrounding escalating inflation and decelerating economic expansion. The Shanghai Composite edged up 0.28% to settle at 3,951.5, whereas the Shenzhen Component firmed 0.15% to 13,723.3.

Consumer inflation advanced to 0.8% in August from 0.5% in July, consistent with anticipated levels. Producer price inflation also increased to 3.8% from 3.5%, marginally surpassing market expectations. Elevated energy costs, partially attributable to persistent geopolitical instability in the Middle East, represented a primary driver of the inflationary upturn.

Persistent softness in consumer spending continues to weigh on the Chinese economy. Businesses are encountering challenges in transferring elevated costs to consumers, and anticipations of curtailed fiscal stimulus measures are compounding the headwinds.
