BJP to contest all seats in Punjab Assembly polls
25-Aug-26   16:42 Hrs IST
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab in the upcoming 2027 state elections, as announced by BJP national general secretary B L Santosh on Monday during a zonal meeting in Patiala. Santosh expressed confidence that Punjab is ready for change and that the BJP is set to form the government.

There is ongoing speculation about a potential revival of the BJP's alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which left the BJP-led NDA in 2020 over farm laws. Recent talks for a reunion intensified after SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 7 August. Santosh's two-day visit aims to assess the party's election readiness and reinforce grassroots organization, including meetings in Patiala and Bathinda, with additional zonal meetings planned in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Amritsar. These meetings will focus on strengthening party presence at the booth level and promoting central government policies to voters.
